Cut Fuel Costs with Smarter Driving

Many people choose to optimize their vehicle to reduce fuel consumption and get more power as a bonus. Engine tuning is a simple and effective way to cut fuel costs—and when combined with smart driving habits, it often has the single greatest impact on efficiency.  We frequently see fuel savings of 20–25%.

Eco-driving - Best practice

Att köra miljövänligt ger ett direkt utslag på bränsleekonomin. Här har vi samlat några tips på hur du bäst kan anpassa din körning för att spara bränsle.

Accelerate Smoothly

Avoid harsh or overly slow acceleration. Fuel consumption peaks during acceleration. Get up to speed efficiently and then maintain a steady pace. Avoid high RPMs—ideally, stay below 3,000 RPM for everyday driving.

Shift to Higher Gears

After engine optimization, you can often shift earlier than before. Driving in a higher gear means lower RPMs and less wear. When accelerating to higher speeds (e.g. 90–120 km/h), you may even skip gears—such as going directly from 3rd to 5th or 6th—depending on your car’s engine and transmission setup.

Most automatic transmissions can be shifted manually, and after tuning, your gearbox will gradually adapt to the engine’s new characteristics—shifting up earlier and down later.

Stick to Speed Limits

Higher speeds mean higher fuel consumption. For example, increasing your speed from 90 km/h to 110 km/h can raise fuel use by up to 20%.
Staying within the legal limit not only improves fuel economy—it also reduces wear and lowers the risk of accidents and speeding tickets. Also, you don’t save as much time as you think by goint 10-20km/h faster.

Use Cruise Control

On highways and open roads, cruise control helps maintain a consistent speed and reduces unnecessary acceleration. This improves efficiency—though it’s better to avoid using it in city traffic or on winding roads.

Use Engine Braking

Avoid using the clutch or brakes to slow down unnecessarily. Anticipate traffic and use engine braking where possible.

During engine braking, your car consumes very little—if any—fuel, while also reducing wear on your brakes and tires.

Avoid Idling

In queues, at red lights, or during bridge openings—if you expect a longer stop, turn off the engine (as long as it’s warm and starts easily). Idling burns unnecessary fuel, and cold starts consume significantly more.

Other Fuel-Saving Tips

Smart driving habits go a long way, but here are a few more ways to boost your fuel efficiency:

Regular Service and Maintenance

Keep your engine well-maintained. Fresh oil, clean filters, and good spark plugs all have a major effect on fuel efficiency.
Always use parts and fluids recommended by your vehicle’s manufacturer.

Correct Tire Pressure

Driving with incorrect tire pressure increases fuel consumption and causes uneven wear. Check your car’s manual for recommended pressure—especially when carrying extra load or towing a trailer. Adjust tire pressure accordingly.

Reduce Drag

Remove roof boxes, racks, bike carriers, and other add-ons when not in use. These increase drag and fuel consumption.
Even accessories like oversized light bars or spoilers can negatively impact your car’s aerodynamics.

Reduce Weight

Avoid carrying unnecessary load. It’s easy for the trunk to become a mobile storage unit—but extra weight means higher fuel use. Remove dog crates, detachable tow bars, or unused tools and gear when not needed.

Turn Off the A/C

In some vehicles, the air conditioning system can increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. Turn it off when it’s not needed. However, driving with open windows isn’t necessarily better—at higher speeds, it increases drag and fuel consumption.

How Engine Optimization Helps

Engine optimization changes how your engine delivers power. It allows for a more efficient driving style without sacrificing performance.
By increasing torque at lower RPMs, you can shift earlier and drive more smoothly.
If your car has an automatic gearbox, it will gradually adapt to the optimized engine by shifting up earlier and down later—further supporting fuel savings.
